Free State
Introduction To Free State
There’s an old saying: In the Free State, you cry twice – the first time when you arrive there, the second time when you depart. The countryside or “flatlands” of South-Africa’s central interior are still unspoiled – probably the best example of where the general lifestyle is still determined by closeness to the earth, outdoor-living, and old-fashioned hospitality. The Free State people are friendly and helpful, and visitors do not remain strangers for long. Those who have travelled the Eastern Free State “platteland” and experienced the hospitality and timelessness of the many interesting towns and guestfarms together with the combination of the eastern parts’ weeping willows and sandstone mountains, are called back – time and again!
